Isles decline - not trading our future #1D for a year and a half of Gallagher (although he is a great 5v5 scorer) and max domi

Habs aren't doing it either. Those two guys are our entire offense and we have many D prospects coming up

Seriously man... I get that Dobson is a great asset but at this point I've got this feeling that you think Dobson is close to the absolute best d-men in the entire league when speaking about the value... I recall back in the summer talking with an Isles fan (I'm almost certain it was you) about a Laine for Dobson+ trade and you said then that you wouldn't move Dobson for Laine 1-on-1...and now this? Domi and Gallagher would be even better package than Laine is...

Teams win when they have productive players on their ELC. The islanders organization views him as the future #1 Dman and so far he's been as advertised. When talking about ceiling, it's a lot easier to find goals (whether that's through the draft or trade) than it is to find a Noah Dobson. He's a 6'4 all situations two way defenseman with elite skating ability.

Brendan Gallagher is a great 5 v 5 player, but his contract is up at the end of next season and as good as he is, he's not worth giving 7-8 years when he'll be 30 in the first year of his new deal. So in 21-22, it will be Noah Dobson vs Max domi. Domi is a great player, but not worth giving up Dobson for. He's also more of a winger than a center, and I think MTL will move him back to wing soon so he can have less defensive responsibility.

Yes I would not give up Dobson for Laine. As good of a goal scorer Laine is, he's one dimensional and his skating is average at best. He has an elite shot and everything else about his game is that of a 3rd liner. He's a black hole on possession and can't play defense. The Islanders could have had mark stone for Noah Dobson and a 2nd and Lou Lamoriello declined. I would have highly considered doing that deal - not only is mark stone a ppg player, but he's arguably the best defensive winger in the league. I believe he was second in the NHL in WAR behind McDavid last season.

Before Miro heiskanen played a game in the NHL, the stars refused to trade him for Erik karlsson, a top 5 defenseman in the NHL at the time - and they were right to do so.
