I think it has something to do with the prospect porn spread by Rogers and TSN, where every time they draft someone in the late rounds the media gushes over the player, regardless of whether or not they’re actually a solid prospect.

It's about playing the percentages, i.e. if you buy enough lottery tickets eventually you're bound to hit. 7ths are also pretty easy to obtain, but you have to have faith in your scouting department to find you hidden gems in the later rounds who fit the mould of the style of team you're trying to build.

I have an irrational amount of love for Hunt. The guy is an absolute beauty, most wholesome player I've ever witnessed in the media. He shakes our intermission guy's hand and gives him a pat on the back every time he's interviewed and NEVER takes credit for anything, even if he was the sole reason we scored. It's always about how his teammates have put him in a situation to succeed or how the the team is playing well. He's about as good as you can get when it comes to a 3rd pairing PP specialist D. I'll be very sad when he is inevitably traded or signs elsewhere...

Wild trade is pretty close, but I don't like giving up all those late picks. I'd rather just move both players for a 2020 3rd or something.

I agree, the Wild need as many darts to throw at the board as possible and giving up a bunch of late picks is a bad idea even if they have a long shot chance to be NHL regulars. Haula and Kuemper were both late round picks, so they’ve done it before.
