I really think Severson is a great D, hes just caught up in the mess in New Jersey.

Problem is if you want to keep Muzzin, thats four really good LD you have and most likely one would have to be moved

Severson is overrated and not good defensively. He might be pretty fine on Leafs with like Dermott as his pairing on 2nd pairing but he is not a Rielly-pairing worthy and his style dont fit that pairing. I would do Kapanen for Severson or Johnsson for Severson but not more and Dermott >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> McLeod.

Muzzin is a UFA. Leafs really don't really have a choice to "keep" Muzzin. Trading Dermot for Severson in one for one doesn't really help the Leafs defence next year. Now Kapanen or Severson...the Leafs trade from a position of strength to gain in position of weakness might be the best option.
