Im a little confused. Why is montreal adding veterans on expiring contracts? Their currently not in the playoffs and these players don't really make a difference if terms of improving them.

Thats not my point. MTL aren't in the playoffs. Their adding players like Scandella who's terrible and its clear Kovy is passed it. If they think this is going to help them try to make the playoffs they'll be disappointed. Obv Kovy is low risk but he's nothing special these days.

It's called (light) improvements without sacrificing assets and spending money.

If their contribution and inspiration to the rest of the team is enough to make the post season, good.
If they don't make the playoffs (most probably), they will at least be in the race for the major part of the season, sell tickets, and have an awesome draft with 11 picks including 5-6 in the top 100.
