Offer sheets must be your team's own draft pick. So using San Jose's isn't allowed. It would also be 4 first round picks because AAV for offer sheets longer than 5 yrs is calculated as though the total contract value is spread over 5 years. So you'd have (6.75 mil X 7 yrs) / 5 for you AAV

Sorry to disagree, but NO offer sheet is the best option. Surely for 6.75m that you signed Barrie for, the Oilers could take find better value elsewhere. There might even be teams that would give you competent Dman very cheaply just to help them with their salary cap situation. Or are there other Dman availble via UFA that could be had without giving up assets. Lastly is Barrie really that good? Has he lead the Avs to the promised land?
