Description
This isn't a fully formed idea, needs a bit of work.

Hamilton out long-term, and CAR have expendable assets and cap space.

If and when Hamilton returns. CAR's D will be:

Slavin - Hamilton
Gardiner - Pecse
Edmunson - Petry
TVR

Habs hilariously end up with TOR's 1st, and a possible 5 picks in the first two rounds of the draft.

Don't pay too much attention to the EDM trade, haven't fully figured that one out yet.

I would make the Petry trade (or "a" Petry trade) in a second if I'm MB. They should focus on building their young core. They're not that far off from being a contending team. But, trading away a top 4 D for futures is never easy, especially in MTL. All that pressure! Lol.

Absolutely right. TSN put Petry on their trade board, so more RuMoRs will surely pop up in his case in the coming weeks, and I don't doubt it that teams will surely be calling MTL to see what he'd cost. My only concern is that Bergevin won't move him regardless of the offer he gets because there's no one in the system to replace him (yet). That's why I went out and acquired Larsson from EDM in this case, it doesn't need to be for Mete, and I don't honestly want to pay that high of a price for him, but it could be someone from another team that's similar.

Not stupid at all. Is Jake Bean another option? Like Bean and a 2nd?

Bean still has almost zero NHL experience, if you swap Fleury out, a 1st would still have to be involved.

I don’t mind this trade, but doubt it happens. I think the Canes are looking more and more like they won’t be making a trade for a defenseman like Petry. If they do, it be a smaller deal for a someone with experience who would be our 7th.

Regarding Bean, I don’t think he’s on the block.
