71m is more than the ducks can give, but 2m to Bernier is actually paid already by TOR so it should be more like 69m (maybe still a bit high)

Bernier's cap hit is still 4.125m so the Ducks are getting close to the cap. Kinda think that Despres or Fowler are guys that the Ducks could trade for cap relief, but doubt if they could take back a bigger contract for the entire season.

    Several points:

-In what world are 2 former first overall picks of equal value to a 2nd pairing dman and a 2nd round pick? Just not good enough: with Hall gone Chia would never do this deal.
-Ryan Nugent-Hopkins plays C and only C, he would take Kesler's slot as the 2C if this trade actually went through, he's a much more complete player.
-You clearly haven't looked at Edmonton's roster. They are not in the market for more LHD. Where could Fowler possibly fit in with Klefbom, Sekera, Davidson, Nurse, and even Reinhart all on the depth chart?
-Edmonton need RHD, their targets on the ducks would be Lindholm or Vatanen, and they may strongly consider doing so vis Offer Sheet. The Ducks would be royally fucked should they choose to do that.

Now all that said, I think the GMs of Edm, Col, and Ana are trying to work out a 3-way deal that would see Fowler go to the Avs, Barrie go to the Oilers, and some other assets go to the Ducks. My belief is that the ask for this deal is Nugent-Hopkins, but McLellan in particular is such a fan of the player that Chia won't pull the trigger. Will be interesting to watch - this is a scenario in which all 3 teams would acquire tools that they need.
