If no one wants DD, maybe not even a trade will do. Wouldn't Arizona be better off just signing Hudler for themselves for 3m than making the trade?

Arizona isn't even at the cap floor for this season yet, therefore they will get to the cap floor with DD's contract and gaining a 3rd round pick for a 5th round. but yes they could easily just sign Hudler themselves

Well Arizona may not be at the up to the cap but they still only a have roster of 20. There is still the probable Doan signing and their RFAs. Looking at their roster they have no need for a centre.
The illusion that teams are going to take on crappy contracts (and pay for them) without getting something really good back is just not true.
