Description
Hypothetical situation, burns has a cap hit of 8m for 6 more years.

If the jets want to acquire him, they’re not going to want to take on his full cap hit. I know it isn’t viable for SJ to retain 4m for 6 years on burns. So there is a 3 way trade in place.

The trade situation breaks down as this, the jets send Sami Niku, Michael Spacek, Declan Chisholm to OTT.

OTT sends Sami Niku, Michael Spacek, Declan Chisholm as well as the SJS 2021 2nd to SJ for Brent Burns with 1.5M retained (he now has caphit of 6.5M)

OTT then sends Burns to WPG with 2.5M retained (caphit of 4M) for a 2021 1st with top 10 protection as well as WPG 2021 4th.


SJ receives:

Sami Niku (WPG)
Michael Spacek (WPG)
Declan Chisholm (WPG)
SJS 2021 2nd (OTT)

OTT receives:

2021 1st rd pick top 10 protected (WPG)
2021 4th rd pick (WPG)

It’s a lot of moving parts but jets basically replace buff with a cheaper option. I think I overpaid on WPG’s end but I really didn’t want to lowball this as burns at 4m still has good value, OTT gets a 1st and a 2021 4th to retain 2.5M on burns.

Yeah now that I look at it, probably not right at all haha. I was looking at him too much as a cap dump. How about Roslovic, Niku, Chisholm (over a PPG dman in the OHL) , Arvid Holm (G prospect) and the 2nd?

Gonna edit it and see how it looks

Those "three no namers" are WPG's 2nd, 3rd, and 4th or 5th best d specs lol, Niku is NHL ready now (was hurt in the beginning of the year, and if you don't play in training camp, apparently PoMo hates you ?) and Chisholm is likely ready next year out of the NCAA (as a shutdown guy) and Chisholm was over PPG in the OHL, probably has second pairing PP QB ceiling

(Also Burns has been steaming sh*t this year, i have 0 interest in him at 4 mil, but whatever)

you can't really pay a team to retain, if anything, The sharks send him to Ottawa then Winnipeg goes and gets him for the players

I like this for the sharks. Time to move on from Burns, and that's a need filling return from Winnipeg. Depends on if Burns is willing to go to Winnipeg.
