Description
Wow does this trade have a lot of impact .. both on Tampa and NHL. Couple things:

1. It is very clear to me this was bidding war with Colorado and Boston. Coleman not as sexy as Kreider .. who I like alot .. but a guy like Coleman could be a missing piece for Tampa (see below) .. similar to Coyle and Johannseen last year for Boston.
2. Oh Kreider going to be costly now for either Avs or Bruins .. both make sense and will greatly help those teams.
3. Coleman has term and is only 1.8M friggen dollars next year ... or 35% of Yanni Gourde AAV but I digress. Kreider is pure rental. Strategically this helps Tampa Cap immensely in 2020.

Now on to Tampa impact ..

1. Defensive forward with grit for playoffs with 21 goals now! He would be #1 in hits on Day 1 from forward group.

2. POSITION VERSATILITY. If I had to pick 1 aspect I like best this would be it. Tampa has very very little true versatility in their lineup. With Stamkos older now only Tyler Johnson really could do C and wing and rather ****ty at that. Coleman brings true 2nd and 3rd line versatility. I enjoyed watching Coyle/Johannssen for Bruins last year and their impact was amazing in Cup run. Tampa has its toy now.
3. PK upgrade .. huge .. Paquette Cirelli and Coleman are a wow on PK .. the 2nd unit with Gourde and Killorn was not good.

4. He makes the team better:
a. Paquette could drop to 4C .. a huge upgrade
b. Funny how Killorn has played 2nd line wing last couple games and Tyler Johnson 3C .. think now we know why. I would play Coleman as 3C .. him and Cirelli would almost be too defensive but again great options in 3rd period shutdown mode. Leave Killorn and Palat with Cirelli as 2nd line.
3. 3rd line of Coleman Johnson and Maroon could work. Maroon does dirty work with Coleman playing 2way center. Johnson could be shooter.. a HUGE question mark to me but sets him up nicely as 3rd line scorer.

I liked the trade immediately.. see posts .. trade was expensive and I thought it would be Cal foote and the Tampa pick but hey .. JUST WIN BABY

I agree. We gave up more than expected but I understand this trade and I'm excited to have Coleman on our team.

Do you expect more trades to happen btw? I still think that experienced RHD is what we need for PO.

Yes I see another trade .. you dont go all in on Coleman and then maybe have a unhealthy Rutta as a 1RD and even if healthy is he a 1RD? ... makes no sense and JBB has said priority at TDL was RD before a forward..

Coleman has 17 5v5 goals. Which is the same amount as kucherov. And he’s getting payed 1.8 million. We probably could use a RD but I really don’t see JBB doing it after what he gave up yesterday.

I like this trade. I still would like to see Coleman play with Cirelli and Palat, that line gives you a great shutdown 2nd line with legit scoring ability. The third line goes to Killorn-Johnson-Gourde and in limited minutes that is a great third line. I know you don't like Johnson and Gourde but them on the third line is match up problems for other teams allowing them more space against other teams bottom lines. Coleman has a horrible Face Off percentage so I think he is better suited as a winger then center and to me he is a better option at the 2RW then 3RW.

I also don't think they are done, I think they will find another RD for insurance purposes before the deadline is up. But even if they don't this Coleman trade is going to pay dividends for the next two years in the playoffs this year and for the cap crunch that is coming.

It was a lot to give up but 1st draft picks in the high 20s are gambles and Nolan Foote is a few years away from helping a team that is trying to win now. Considering they still have their first round pick this year that off sets the high price a little as well.
