Description
The leafs team identity is trying to outscore their opponents, not shut them down. It would be great if one RHD could save the team, but Josh Manson isn't gonna fix all the defensive problems by himself. Instead, the leafs need to go back to what makes them good. The top 6 is responsible for over 72 percent of the goals since Keefe took over. they need more bottom 6 production, and they need Andersen to put up a save percentage over 898. If Andersen can get back to his normal form and we get production from our bottom 6, we should be fine. We are gonna get Reilly back hopefully soon, Our defense will have talent 1-6. Just need Freddy to start making some saves. Obviously, the team defense is not a strength at all. But that wont get fixed, at least not overnight at the trade deadline. Instead, just focus on growing the teams strengths, not trying to fix a weakness.

It was crazy seeing #firedubas trending on twitter last night lol

Don't think it would help his position at all with fans if he ends up trading for a forward instead for a dman.

Nhl goals against 2019-20
1. Detroit - 231
2. New Jersey - 201
3. Toronto - 200
4. Ottawa - 199
5. Florida - 198
6. San Jose - 193
7. Los Angels - 191

One of the main reasons Toronto is actually in a playoff spot is because their only competitor for 3rd in rhe division is doing just as bad in the same department

Yesterday was a great measuring stick to just how much they need to focus in D-zone coverage. 100% of the goals were D-zone coverage issues. They can score goals, we all know this. You want depth scoring? They need to keep the puck out of the net.

It's easy to say they need to improve depth scoring, but how do they do that? Look at the ice time distribution and zone starts under Keefe. No wonder the top-6 is scoring 72% of the goals, they are getting the best opportunities. That stat is a bit misleading.

I don't see them trading for a forward. TBH, I am not sure the Leafs want to make any moves right now, they're so injured that it's tough to remove players from this roster. I really wish they would have made that Dylan Demelo deal the Jets did, seems the most reasonable acquisition thus far.

I would love to see the lines move around a bit and end up like this:
Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Tavares-Kapanen
Kerfoot-Engvall-Korshkov
Clifford-Spezza-Goat

Spezza can take a shift at 3C every once in a while, shifting Engvall to wing and Korshkov to the 4th line. Kerfoot seems to play better when he has the puck a bit more and can make some setup passes (he does have some nice ozone vision and touch). The problem is neither Engvall or Korshkov are natural shooters. But Korshy can crash the net and play a JVR style and that will help. They could use a guy on the line with a better shot (maybe it's Kapanen, maybe Johnsson) but with what they have, I think this is the best setup going forward.

right I agree. but I dont think its one person who can fix that. its the system as a whole.
