Both teams retaining in the Parise/Ladd deal makes sense because it breaks down like this:
- Ladd will count 6.5 million against the Wild's cap for 3 years, saving them 1 million, then the following two years they have only 2 million retained on Parise on the cap.
- Parise will count 6.5 million against the Islanders cap for 3 years, and then the following two years it will drop to 5.5 million (a point when he probably is a great LTIR candidate, or the cap will have gone up enough that it's not a huge deal to play him low minutes with that cap hit.)
