Description
MTL is a rich team who has refused to spend to the cap in recent years. Leverage your wealth to get the 1C your team really needs. Here is the logic behind it (Please read this before you get mad):

MTL: You've been looking for a true 1C for years and I imagine Bergy's chair is beginning to heat up. Land yourself that big fish for the foreseeable future. The cons are fairly obvious - You have to take on 6/7ths of the Vlasic contract. Opinion on Pickles tends to fall into two camps. Either you are a stats guy who sees Vlasic as being at or below replacement from right around the day he signed his contract or you don't use the tools available to you and think Vlasic (while declining) still has a little more to give. I do not respect Bergy's player evaluation and so I place him in the latter camp. That means that Vlasic does fill a hole for you until Mete or Romanov is ready to take it (hopefully). Vlasic is from Québec and I think he would waive his NMC. Hopefully Vlasic being on board and a productive meeting with the GM's will convince Couture to waive as well.

Now you may be up in arms about taking on the Vlasic contract and that is fine. The reason I think it is uniquely doable for the Habs is because of two things. Your current cap space and the US TV deal. You currently have a ton of cap space and you won't have to spend a huge chunk of it until after the affects of Covid19 and the US TV deal are signed. That means that you can survive the contract for the first few years and the cap will increase enough in the following ones that it won't be a massive burden for you to carry.

SJS: San Jose won't want to move Couture. You'll need to give them a damn good reason to do so which is why you are taking on the Vlasic contract. SJ has a less than 0% chance of being willing to move him without incentive such as this. They get Domi back and take on a cap dump of their own in Alzner. Helps them with a re-tool to get younger and jettison large-long contracts that will hamstring their ability to do so.

This won't happen so don't fret too much. I just think there is just enough here to make some semblance of sense.

I don't think San Jose does that. Their retaining salary and Couture and Vlassic are still decent players. Alzner is an ahler and Domi is a 50-60 point player.

Your opinion on Vlasic is outdated. He has the worst contract in the entire league. SJ is either going to have to swallow that (which makes a re-tool or re-build very hard) or retains and moves a good piece. Getting a Domi back in return and losing the Vlasic deal are massive.

And do you know that Couture only reaches 70 points once and is a 60-65 point guy’s who is over 30! The chance are Domi will probably be more productive in the next 5 years then Couture will be on that extended period.

Yes couture have been better then Domi so far in is career but Domi is entering is prime and will likely be a cheaper option.

He is a good 2 way guy. Domi had one good season and boom, gone back to hitting 50 point seasons

This is still a lose for San Jose. Their gonna be taking 1mil of Vlassics salary for a while.
