Description
1) Pretty simple trade for Colorado. Jost + Zadorov will combine next year to make ~ 5 mil. Strome will also make ~ 5 mil. Strome easily slides into the 2nd line RW alongside Kadri and Bura, where he should be good for like 55 points (70 points with Panarin, 40 points with Jimmy Vesey, I'll say Kadri is right in the middle there) and at RW as opposed to C, his defense is much better. Also allows Donskoi to bounce down to 3rd line to play with Compher and Nichushkin and Cavert/PEB/Kaut round out the lineup. Zadorov was slated to make ~3 mil next year regardless of length as a basically 7D, Avs get out of that entirely. Hajek gives them an LHD fill in with some upside (much like Ryan Graves was 2 years ago) in case anyone goes down - essentially same role that Timmons is playing.

2) Trouba trade is all about need. Chicago needs an RHD and more size and physicality in their own end. Trouba is all of those things. Cost of re-signing Saad will prob be in that 7-8 mil range which makes this about cap neutral for Chicago and ultimately with Kubalik most likely signing long term this offseason would be tough to manage. Kubalik, Kane, Debrincat, Nylander round out the top 6 wingers, Boqvist is able to avoid top line matchups which he wasn't quite ready for yet and continue developing.

Nashville needs Winger help particularly if at least one of Smith/Granlund are going to walk. Saad plays a quick but controlled style that fits the Preds really well. Duchene comfortably looks like the 1C now, Bonino was able to basically step into a 2C role after Hynes came in and Tomasino shouldn't need much more time. Johansen was forced to play with some bottom 6 hustle wingers to try and get him to move his legs more, and it seems like his issue is more mental. Really good change of scenery candidate.

With Boqvist, Murphy, Mitchell and Seabrook on the right side I don't see CHI needing that Trouba contract...

Two things... one Johansson is way over paid and I’d rather keep a younger trouba than him. Everyone has said that both nils and miller will start in ahl

2 things. one ryan strome is not a 55 point player. panarin absolutely carried him to 70 points this year. 2: how does a 2nd line winger equate to: top 4 dman in zadorov and young center... hajek isnt projected to be anything special. this is a terrible trade for colorado.

Well in a couple ways you're right. Strome...is a product of his linemates. For better or worse. This isn't a hard experiment to do. Go back to almost any year of Strome's career, take his 2 most common linemates, average out their point rate, and that is usually Strome's point rate. This year for example, Panarin was at a 113 point pace, Fast was at 34. That combines to 73, Strome was 69. So yes, Strome is being constantly carried (much like his brother), but with good linemates that's actually great...and that's what we're looking at in Colorado. Kadri played at a 58 point pace this year, Bura was at 64. I'd bet on a line with those 2, Strome yeah ends up around 55. And playing at Wing, he should have good defense to match. That makes him a top 6 player.

Framing Zadorov as a top 4 dman is pretty laughable. He was a healthy scratch for Kevin Connauton this year and comfortably slots behind: Johnson, Makar, Cole, Girard, Graves and Byram this year. That puts him as a 7D. And paying 3mil for a 7D, I think you'd agree, is a terrible idea.

    So looking at ability:
    Strome >>> Jost
    Hajek << Zadorov

    Cap hit:
    Strome <<< Jost
    Hajek >>> Zadorov

    Age
    Strome <<< Jost
    Hajek >> Zadorov

Seems even at worst, and frankly most Ranger fans turn this deal down.
