Description
Cap theory... NHL and NHLPA agree to raise cap by set amount over next 4 years (2.5m year 1 and 1.5m years 2-4). This is done to keep player salaries increasing and enable longer term deals to be signed with more certainty. Escrow will then claw back player salaries based on hockey related revenues. The actual cap is mostly irrelevant at this point so may as well provide certainty. A cap freeze actually solves nothing and I believe NHLPA should insist on scheduled cap increases. Players hate escrow under normal times but right now I think everyone understands in order to keep the league running its a requirement. Let me know what you think.

TOR
  1. Gáborík, Marián
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (OTT)
  3. 2021 5th round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
OTT gets Johnsson for basically free in $ terms and with added ice time and more time on PP should be able to flip him at the deadline for a 2nd if they want to. Bracco should be able to get some NHL time in OTT to see what he can do.
2.
TOR
  1. Weegar, MacKenzie [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Not a huge fan of this trade but everyone else on here has RHD envy so why shouldn't I.

Liljegren has a lot more value then Weegar and it doesn't make sense to trade your top RHD prospect. Would rather try and get a deal done around Kerfoot/Dermott for Wallmark or Acciari/Weegar. SDA can be a throw in to tip the value scales.

You may be on to something with your idea. Team GM’s and the current crop of UFA’s and RFA’s will feel shafted if the cap stays flat or drops. Although I don’t know if the current CBA allows for setting what the cap will be years in advance as it’s supposed to be tied directly to revenues. Regardless of the outcome, there will need to be a couple creative solutions thrown in to make things work. I like the idea of one CBO, but a lot to the owners probably don’t. The designation of one ‘franchise player’ per team whose salary wouldn’t count against the cap is another creative option, but would favour the richest owners as they could pay superstars whatever they want.

There would have to be a letter of understanding between the league a NHLPA to get it done. CBOs and "franchise" players are options too but this idea I think most owners and players can agree upon. Cap space is based on an estimate of next years revenues and at this point they are impossible to predict so may as well set them and let escrow sort out the actual $$
