Description
We as fans need to face the fact that the Hawks have some good pieces, but not enough depth, some moves while hated were made to facilitate a game plan for the future. With good drafting and player development this can be a reality where there is a glut of talent and the issue is how to best utilize them.

Now I hate the idea of trading Cat and Strome, but the return of Panarin with term can not be understated. Now is the NYR likely to give up Panarin I doubt it, but I think they would actually give it some thought.

The other questionable move is with MTL, this is all about getting that first round pick, done at this year's Draft, same as the trade with Ottawa, these moves are all about adding futures. The other moves are about opening up space, next will be the opening up of cap room over the next 3 years, and hopefully the cap goes up as well.

The plan, resign Saad to a lower hit, more like 4m, Toews, Kane and Keith get reduced contracts when they come up (if Keith doesn't retire/ask for a trade). Alzners contract gone in second year worth it for the pick and exposed for expansion draft as well. I don't think Shaw will be back and retires on LTIR.

More pieces will be available in the future, this is a build while looking for the right combination of rookies and veterans, that being said, the second line is hella scary. And let's hope that Seabrook comes back in a form 80% of where he was when this contract was signed.

It was a good effort but in the words of Randy Jackson "It's a no from me, dog". You're giving up futures for more futures essentially. Cat is 22 years old and can score 25-40 goals per year. Strome is 22 years old and starting to show he can be a consistent 50 point scorer (while not all-star worthy, those are solid numbers for a 2C and PP2 guy). Beaudin has played 1 NHL game and is making strides. He's only 20! Alex Nylander put up 26 points in 64 games this year, technically his first full year in the league. He may be a late bloomer and that's ok! He has shown a lot of potential this year without consistency but if he can start to find some consistency he could also become a 40-50 points per season player and that'll be huge for the offence as a middle 6 forward. He can also be someone to be relied upon on the PP2.

Teply is not NHL ready but love his path so far! Chalupa is NOT NHL ready. He's another Anton Wedin. He'll be in AHL and we'll see what he's got. He's Kubalik's friend so I'm sure that played a role in signing him. I'd put him more in a "diamond in the rough" category than legit NHL player (like what Panarin was). Same with Shalunov; may not be NHL ready. I'd rather see Entwistle and Kurashev up on the 3rd line in this situation than Teply and Shalunov.

That Ottawa trade, I'm not sure why they'd want to give up 3 futures for 3 spare parts. I'd love to keep Carpy and Kookoo to be honest. I think they were excellent depth players and PK players for the Hawks this year. Ottawa is bursting at the seams after this year's draft with young talent waiting to make their NHL debuts or start their first full season. Remember they got potentially 2 of the top 3 picks this year. They don't have the room to add 3 spare parts.
