You're right, he was a 7th rounder, I didn't know he was re-drafted when the Ducks took him in the 3rd. Good call!!

He occasionally will fill in at center but he's not a center. When he came up to the NHL level, he was a third liner, similar to Chris Tierney but developed a scoring touch that made him a top-6 forward. Eventually, he became a first-line forward on the Sharks who already had Joe Thornton and later Logan Couture. He's better suited as a scoring winger who can, albeit slower, play a two-way game.
