Description
Ok so... I wanted to try something where I completely rebuild the bottom six and clear some cap for defence. Goodrow is a capable 3C with incredible defence and good on-ice awareness. He's also a cheap option. With the acquisition of Foligno, that third line becomes a defensive wall with some speed/offence in the form of Kapanen. The loss of Kerfoot, Johnsson and Dermott also clears some cap to sign Gudas and TVR which should drastically improve our right side.

Trade Analysis:

Kerfoot Trade:
Leafs Get: A cheaper option at the 3C position with incredible defensive skill. He could make our bottom-six the best defensive one in the league.

Bolts Get: A centreman with more term on his contract, solid defensive and offensive abilities. The pick is added because of the added salary.

Johnsson Trade:
Leafs Get: Another great defensive forward that's cheaper and will help with that bottom-six. They also get some solid picks for the future.

Wild Get: A bit more offence on a forward group that could use it and a young defenceman on a team with an aging back end.

Add a bit more if needed. Thoughts?

I think you're overpaying a bit on both these trades, but I like the overall concept of these trades

I'm fairly certain you're a Leafs fan. TBL just sent a 1st round pick to ACQUIRE Goodrow, but you're suggesting that somehow Kerfoot is equivalent to a 1st round pick.

well to be fair a lot of Goodrows value has diminished since then due to a lost year on his contract. He was only that valuable since he was very cheap with 2 years of term (but you could also say his value has increases due to the flat cap, which is a valid point). I do agree that TBL wouldnt do this though

I don't think either team makes that Wild trade. Foligno should be our next captain and we dont need another LW (even after trading one) nor a LD (even if we traded Brodin, we still have Soucy who looked great in the top 4 this season). I also don't love the idea of giving up picks, our prospect pool is finally looking decent and there's always a chance one of those picks turns into another Kaprizov, Khovanov, or Beckman for us.

Does anyone really want that 3rd line going out to stop the perfection line? I don't, I want Matthews out working the other top lines because he's good enough to become a top 5 player in the league. Let him take over the top line and then JT gets their second line and at that point I want a 3rd line that can just out skate and beat 3rd lines like this above.
