Description
Florida was again a disapointment this season. They didn't officially make the playoffs after being taken out by the Islanders in the tournament and next season team could be worst at least on paper. Former GM was asked to cut 10M in salaries which lead to the trade of Trocheck. And now the team will likely move away from Hoffman and Dadonov. Those 3 guys are all top 6 and even if there replacements are already there on the team (Denisenko, Tippett and Borgstrom) those 3 are unproven. So even if Hoffman and Dadonov go because of management decision to cut salaries they can't really replace the salary of those players. Plus the big problem of this team is that there's too much money spend on the backend. Bob, Ekblad, Yandle, Matheson and Stralman have a combined +/-34M which is almost half the capspace add the fact that they will need to resign Weegar who was a good defenseman for them and you have your problem. One trade I could see happen would be to trade Matheson. One team that could be interested would be Detroit. Their rebuild is gonna be long and by the time it gets done is contract will be done or close too. As a incencitive to take him they also send Montembeault. He's a Young goaltender and Detroit could really use some help at the position with Bernier. They'll have to retain some salary but it can be done. I'm really having a hard time knowing on which direction the cats go. since management wanted to clear 10M is it to sign or trade for players or Financial situation, so I'm making a supposition they want to be around 71M capspace, therefore I think they'll expect growth from their Young core, a good year from Bob and trade Matheson to call it done.

  1. Matheson, Michael ($1,875,000 retained)
  2. Montembeault, Samuel
Additional Details:
Detroit gets Matheson at 3M. Their rebuild is gonna take time and they can absord that contract, plus they need a little bit of evrything right now. Plus for taking Matheson contract they get Montembeault a young goalie since they're really weak at this position.

Matheson is...really bad...If it were $3 mil for one year, sure, Montembeault might be a reasonable throw in...but it's for 6 more years!

Not interested in Matheson even with the retention, sorry. The deal is way too long. Hopefully he rebounds for you guys.

I'm sure Detroit would take Matheson if you added Denisenko, Tippett, or a 1st. Otherwise it's not worthwhile for Detroit to significantly limit their ability to maneuver in a flat cap environment while rebuilding.

No free cap dumps.
