Description
The Oilers were beaten by the Blackhawks, the lowest seed in the western conference. That sucks

Holland is faced with a conundrum. What is the Oilers’ problem? It I saw hard not to win with Connor McJesus and Leon Draisaitl on your roster.

One of the blaring weaknesses is depth forwards. Consider that both Joakim Nygard and Gaetan Haas, two European signings, got decent ice time this year. That says a lot about the Oilers’ depth

There are some teams that are shopping their depth players, like the Leafs with Johnsson and Kapanen. IMO the Oilers should target one of those guys

There is also the chance that the Oilers win the draft lottery and draft Alexis Lafrenière 1st overall. Laffy would give them one of the best top six forward groups in the league

They should also probably look at a free agent goalie signing. No one with experience in the hockey world would trust Koskinen as their starter.

I don't think Edmonton looks to trade Puljujarvi this year: the odds of him returning now are really, really high and at what he's expected to sign for, is too good a deal to pass up. He had an NHLe of 35 points as the best player in Karpat, he'll likely produce similarly to Kapanen next season, but he'll be $2M cheaper.

I don't see St. Louis wanting to add Larsson, even if Pietrangelo chases a paycheque. They still have Parayko and Faulk eating big minutes on their roster, and would be able to do more with a cheaper bottom-pairing option.

I'm clueless as to why you've opted to just sell Rodrigue off for less than the pick he was drafted with. He just had a strong year in the QMJHL and might push Wells out of AHL employment in December.

Also, there's currently zero way for Edmonton to acquire both Lafreniere and Askarov without Edmonton getting a hold of another top-15 pick.

Didnt JP just sign another contract in Finland and pretty much cement that he isnt coming back to Edmonton? They need to trade him before he just becomes a FA and chooses his own route

No, the Liiga season starts October 1st, and the NHL season isn't going to begin until December 1st (supposedly). That gives any player eligible to sign a European deal - like Joe Thornton - a chance to stay game-ready and in peak condition for the start of the 2020-21 season. Puljujarvi's new contract has an NHL out-clause. Based on recent talks with his agent and with Ken Holland, it's my belief that the Oilers think it more beneficial for Puljujarvi's growth as a player to play the next 3 months in Finland before coming over to Edmonton.

That makes sense, he will basically have a 2 month training camp playing competitive games, that will give him a good opportunity when coming back

Is the Byfiglien signing realistic? I see him as a stopgap for Bouchard and Broberg
