Description
The Arizona Coyotes are in big trouble. With the suspension they lost their second round pick this year, which means they won't draft until the 4rd round and they also lost their 1st round for next season. With all that and the fact that they're not ready for contention Hall decides to walk off Arizona.
Arizona is a team build around a group set of defenseman who plays a responsible, structured game. So I Don't think they'll be able to get a offensive firepower guy, but more a 20 foot guy. For that I'll make a trade with Buffalo to get Johansson. He can play all 3 position, is responsable and could play on the second pp. In exchange Buffalo would likely want Raanta so he could be a 1a-1b with Ullmark next season and since Buffalo as the capspace they could also land Stepan. He's far to be the guy that will change everything in Buffalo, but he'a veteran who could help Buffalo for at least one year.
Arizona is not a market that attract UFA, but they could look for a someone to play in their 4rd line. My choice would be Eakin he disapointed badly last season, but Arizona might take a chance on him on and he could use a chance to redeem himself and at least upgrade is value.
There's a lot of rumors surronding OEL, but I Don't think he's gonna get traded. He's their captain one of the few players that said he wanted to play for Arizona, so I wouldn't pull the trigger on him unless they receive an offer they can't refuse. Plus there's no one on the team that would replace him.
For all the reasons mentionned above I Don't expect a major in Arizona, they'll hope for improvment and the arrival of new players to at least make the playoffs and once qualified anything can happen.

I tend to agree with you. I think the Coyotes are going to look to cut costs this offseason. This isn't what the new owner expected or signed up for, that's for sure.

OEL is virtually un-movable. He's got a full NMC and I don't see any team taking on that contract. Not this year especially.

I think Hall is gone and the Coyotes likely move some older pieces with shorter term on their deals like Kessel, Stepan and Raanta, as you note. For many teams, 2020-2021 is going to be the year of "Let's put a team on the ice and see if we can improve internally." The Coyotes will be on that list I think.

So the Sabres take back over 6M in cap (10.750-4.5) and there's no sweetner involved and we add a 2nd...no thanks. I know all are in the last year of their contracts but still a no go for me
