Description
I'm glad this team got a Cup before cap hell officially kicked in for the Lightning. This might the toughest offseason this front office has seen. As a fan, I'm confident that JBB can find a way to navigate this mess and keep all the important pieces in tact but it won't be easy. On a incredibly serious note, Stamkos might be placed on LTIR. He played just 2:47 all playoffs and was supposed to be ready to go for this bubble tournament but something else happened to him. No one really knows what it is because of them being in the bubble but there's a lot of signs pointing to another lengthy Stamkos absence (maybe even permanent) and while his contract being on LTIR doesn't solve the cap crisis permanently in Tampa, it does provide some relief and gives Tampa flexibility. Obviously, the reports aren't saying that but they are saying JBB has been looking to shop players who aren't expected to leave and a lot of them are going to be reluctant when it comes to waiving their NTCs. If Stamkos has to be put on LTIR, that means JBB can keep mostly everyone here in Tampa but you know that's a long shot of an assumption of what will happen. I could've put Stammer on LTIR for the purpose of this Armchair GM, assuming he does have to miss all of next season with whatever he's dealing with and kept Killer/Johnson but obviously I'd rather have the captain over those two any time of the year. I could see Bobby Ryan ringchasing now that he is out of Ottawa and Tampa would be a likely destination if he were willing to take a serious discount to play here (which i mean maybe) and if he were to join, it would replace Killorn's goalscoring we would be missing if he were to be shopped. The other UFA moves being Rutta, Bogosian and Maroon all back on similar deals, keeping the cap roughly the same. The RFA signings of Cirelli, Sergachev, and Cernak are maybe a little based on their performances in the bubble and I wouldn't be shocked if they were lower in AAV but during their ELCs they have all earned a pay raise. Only one I didn't sign is Masin as he has left for the KHL.

One last thing: Wouldn't it be funny if Tampa moved McEhlinney for whatever they can get for him and signed Lundqvist on a league minimum as their new backup?

Okay so I'll admit I might have lowballed Cirelli and Sergachev by a million or less each respectfully and I knew when I made the Johnson trade I should have sent him to DET so he could be 2C again

Coburn could retire now that he has his Cup. While he's still serviceable, he's stated he wants to end his career in Tampa so why not end it on the highest note?

    1. Verhaeghe, Carter
    Additional Details:
Verhaeghe might not be back at all. Tampa has better overall players than him ready to go. Still a good 2 way guy for any team who needs bottom 6 depth to be honest
    4.
    TBL
    1. 2020 2nd round pick (BUF)
    2. 2021 4th round pick (BUF)
    Additional Details:
Buffalo makes the most sense due to their lack of goal scoring wingers outside of Skinner and Olofsson. With the addition of Eric Staal, BUF could use another solid addition to their top 6. Only issue here is their cap situation is a little rough since they have to sign Reinhart, Mittelstadt (cheap), Kahun, Olofsson, Ullmark and Montour. I doubt they have much room left in cap after the resigning starts but who knows.
    BUF
    1. Killorn, Alex
    Additional Details:
I don't think BUF has the cap to make a deal like this but they could use the goalscoring depth plus Killorn is a big body. Only problem is he falls down a lot. His value is the highest it has ever been as he is coming off a career year and is a Stanley Cup champ. In a normal cap rising year, he'd probably fetch a late 1st + but considering we're in a flat cap year, a lot of teams (unless desperate) would stay away from him.
    5.
    TBL
    1. 2020 7th round pick (NJD)
    Additional Details:
Purely a cap dump, any return outside of Schneider's albatross of a contract is fine.
    NJD
    1. Johnson, Tyler
    Additional Details:
I could never see TyJo actually waiving his NTC to go to NJ but weirder things have happened this year. Johnson just isn't the player he used to be and his contract is now a full on liability to Tampa. JBB either moves it now some magical way or he waits a year on Seattle to join and do what he can then to make the Kraken take him off the books here. Starting next year he has a modified NTC so I definitely could see that being the most realistic scenario happening around Johnson but any extra cap this offseason is crucial.

The trades are good, only the Cirelli and Sergachev signing that are unrealistic

The only way i see Tyler Johnson waiving his full NTC is for a chance at either a 1C or 2C position, And NJ has Hischier and Hughes at 1C and 2C so noway he waives there.

you know, as probably biased as it is for me to say this, i feel like more attention is going to be on the Islanders' RFAs more than Tampa's. Barzal, Devon Toews, and Pulock plus they have about as much as cap as we do and Barzal will fill that up so. Also players dont have to accept offersheets that come to them from other teams but I see what youre saying, I just gave them bridge deals tbh
