Signing Brodie is going to limit their ability to upgrade their roster anywhere else and resign Morgan Rielly in two years. I think they need to go cheaper.

To be honest, I think they will sign Brodie. That's my early FA prediction.

I don't mind this. I think signing Brodie is very possible as well. I like the strides we saw from Holl once finally given a full season to play, I think him and Muzzin could be solid. Playing Brodie with Rielley should on paper make a stronger 1st pairing D. I'm not sure how you get playing time for all of Dermott, Sandin, Lilgren and Lehtonen but definitely gives them some better depth on D.

I don't think Dubas wants to go into the season this close to the cap though, so wouldn't be surprised if the unload Kerfoot as well. I wouldn't be surprised if this year there's multiple teams who promote some of their younger AHL players to fill out bottom 6 roles with the flat cap. If the Leafs are going to spend money on the blue line they will need to take the same approach upfront to stay under the cap.

Creating some competition is a great idea in the D corps. I don't want Sandin and Lily to "get" spots in the top 6, I want them to earn them. However, if there's no AHL next year and they run some sort of 25-26 man taxi squad thing, I think both of them are up there.

I just don't love the Brodie signing. I think he benefits from playing with Giordano and he'll be too expensive. If he's the best option I guess go get him, but I hope there's something else.

yeah he's not the best option, but he is AN option that the leafs could afford.
