Description
I'm just messing around - I know too little about the Devils roster to really seriously make an attempt at this (McLeod 4th line? Boqvist not playing? The RFA contracts?)
But with that said, can you see something like this happening?

I think if there's any point for NJD to squeeze the most out of their cap space and pivot, it's now

NJD decline

Killorn + 1st probably close to Palmieri

But doubt NJD would retain Palmieiri and add 3rd for Johnson....if anything, TBL pays a team to take Johnson.

(as for the other deals, MackBlack probably a little low, Garbner to NJD version 1.0 did not go well, Miles Wood is strictly LW, Ty Smith makes team, rest looks pretty good)

Sure - some cheap contracts are just placeholders, swapping Wood and Johnsson probably comes without any deeper implications. It's funny cause I've been criticized for starting Smith on this team before lol.

What I do disagree with is the Palmieri for Killorn and a 1st evaluation. Killorn is on contract for 2 more years at a very decent AAV and I view both of these players very similarly. I just figured this was a way for NJ to get something more substantial that isn't 3-4 years away from a Palmieri trade, while also giving Tampa something that works.

Do you agree conceptually, that they should target some team pressed against the cap and try to pry away some decent NHL ready players though?

I do not think Killorn and Palmieri are in the same neighborhood in terms of quality.

I do agree that NJD should take advantage of cap-squeezed teams, but I don't think that they will (or should) take a dump (ie, MAF) along with picks. I think they should try to acquire players on the discount (like they did with Myers and Johnsson), from cap-tight teams......such as Virtanen, Boeser, Toews, Hintz, Gurianov, Sergachev, Schmidt, Chychrun, Bear, Jokiharju, Reinhart, etc
