chara isn't signing with the penguins. If he doesn't sign in boston he'll probably retire.

B. that's an awful trade for a top 4 young defenseman proven to be able to play at the NHL level.
There is no way they accept that.
Now if you want to talk about Matheson I'm more than willing to listen to offers. But they ain't moving Pettersson.

Pettersson is good but expendable. The trade essentially loses Pettersson and Sceviour and brings in Granlund and Chara.

Chara and his agent said they are going over all options. I think you could see him sign with a contender for the right price. Chara is still elite because he brings aspects of his game that no other player in the league can bring. Is he going to be dancing around scoring 15 goals a year? No. But, he can play a PK/Shutdown role for 20 minutes a night at an elite level still. if Chara doesn`t sign then either promote POJ and/or sign another UFA D. Pens are not going to trade Matheson after just getting him. Plus no other team is taking him without taking a similar contract back. Bet on him to bounce back.

Are you going to argue this team is not better from the trade/signings? Take advantage of the market. EDM needs a dman now with Klefbom out. Granlund can be signed at a discount and turn out to be an absolute STEAL. Chara brings huge value at $3m even at age 43. The intangibles alone are worth that. He could be the second hardest working player in the league behind 87. Leadership. Size. Toughness.

Re: Chara 'elite'

Being 6'9 doesn't make you elite lol omg he's 43 for crying out loud, he's a solid depth D this point and would happily sign for 1M or under at very most, wow

By that logic Rocco Grimaldi is 'useless' because he's 5'6 despite being on pace for 40 points last year in a limited situation and being an elite possession player

The whole mentality around size has to really change

Not to mention toughness being ancillary at best...

yeah expendable....as you replace him with a 43 year old pylon who can't move anymore.

Penguins aren't trading Pettersson, you can delete that and all the clickbait nonsense that made you think it's even remotely reasonable.

The Granlund signing makes the team better. But losing Pettersson and signing Chara makes the team worse. A lot worse. We need to get younger and faster. Not older and slower. 43 year old Chara would slow down Marino paring so bad. Chara is a 3rd pairing 12-15 minute a night D-man now. He’s 43..lol. Pettersson is 24, coming off two really good years, signed to a good, reasonable deal, and keeping the same top 4 D as last year is huge. Just like the Steelers D only replacing J.Hargrave this year and returning 10 out of 11 starters. Keeping Pettersson/Marino pairing for their 2nd straight year is a big deal. Two players under 25.

Signing Granlund helps though. But no need to trade Pettersson to do that. Scevoiur’s contract can be buried in the minors for only a 125K cap hit and we can trade his expiring contract at the deadline when it has value. The pens arnt trading him b4 he plays 1 game with them.

And ZAR is coming off off-season shoulder surgery and will be on LTIR to start the season. Signing Granlund would look like a McCann/Janko/Granlund third line and a Tanev/Blueger/Rodrigues 4th line. Which definitely makes the team better.

And Matheson/Ceci-Ruthwedel(platoon) is only gonna be playing 10-13 minutes a game. Letang/Dumoulin line plays 25 minutes plus per night and Pettersson/Marino line will play 21-25 minutes a night. Leaves about 8-14 minutes a night for that 3rd D pairing. They will survive. Hopefully thrive..lol.
