I highly doubt the Jets target a 30 year old defenseman with only 2 years of term left and a winger with only 2 years of term if they move Laine in division.

All of the Jets most important players are on long term contracts. Ekholm and Forsberg both have great contracts. If you have to add about 3 million or so in 2 years that doesn't seem so bad as long as they aren't long term contracts. At least for Ekholm they won't want a long term contract. The value is in Winnipeg favor so they might be willing to pay one or both of them in 2 years. Could use one or both as trade bait in offseason or next year's trade deadline.

It's just not worth it for Winnipeg. If Ekholm was 5 years younger and both he and Forsberg had more than 2 years term, they might look at it, but not with both being able to walk in 2 years and one being 30.

Trading Laine in division is likely the last thing the Jets do, if they end up trading Laine, barring a hefty overpayment.
