Barzal would be dumb to sign that bridge.

Would he? He has fewer points than Brayden Point last season, the best comparable. You can debate about any impact that Trotz's defensive system has on point production, however, the Point contract almost certainly will be the basis of any 3 year bridge. You can back load it to make sure that he gets a very high QO to set up his big-boy extension after the cap finally goes up, just like with Point and Meier. Combine that with COVID, and I wouldn't be surprised if Barzal gets less AAV than what I just posted.

I mean you say Point is the best comparable, but I would say that is an outlier. That is a player on a stacked team that is notoriously known for its players taking less. Every player on that team, even UFAs have taken less money. If I'm Barzal I would rather use players like Mitch Marner as my comparable. At the very least I would use Matthew Tkachuk and say I'm better than him and should get more than his 3/7 million. Lastly I would point to some of the salaries of players on my team, especially the Cs, and say I am far better than them.
