i think the arguments already over - its just blind hatred (similar but not the same as karlsson).

karlsson = not worth 11 mil but at like 7-9m hes very desirable
tavares = maybe not worth 11 mil but if he was 8-9m hes very desirable

its just that double digit figure thats the issue as well with covid these contracts (when signed no GM thought wed have flat cap and a pandemic) that makes people even more hesitant on accepting their player. These guys got paid their due and by no means are playing bad. Karlsson has been great just not stunning. Tavares has been awesome but not stunning. Its apples to oranges and both guys impact the team in a positive way. ( I know karlsson isnt the best example but he works well in this situation and Im a sharks fan so its better to speak on my own team, and hey at least Tavares has been healthy for the majority of his contract so far ).

It's a very unpopular opinion, but I think J.T. is worth ever penny of his 11 mil. He's played excellent, posted career highs, and is now the leafs captain. Just my opinion. That's for telling me your opinion.

Why are we watching something from over a year ago?

Anyway, no, of course JT isn’t the problem. The leafs signed a premier UFA (a kind of player that doesn’t hit UFA more than once every 5+ years) to what was probably an under market contract.

Then, 2 things happened:
1. When some of their core players were on those precious entry level deals, the leafs didn’t invest properly in the defensive side of the puck. In other words, they wasted those valuable ELC contracts on a flawed concept.
2. They then handed out UFA contracts to their RFA players. You want to tell me there was some max offer sheet coming from Arizona for Matthews even though they’re trying to trade their captain to save a few bucks? Sure. Whatever. Can’t sign that marner contract.

It still applies from a year ago. JT is still an elite centre. As for your 2 points, sure. I agree. Thanks.
