I don't think it's a secret at this point. I'm a huge JT fan. He's worth every penny he's payed. And signing him... WAS NOT A MISTAKE. I'm not trying to be rude, but there is absolutly NO evidance/explanation to the they-shouldn't-have-signed-JT belief. The leafs got JT FOR FREE (asset wise). But that's not all. The ACGM's without JT aren't really fair. Let's just think for a second.
With JT, leafs 1000% do not make the playoffs in 2018-19. It's not a debatable fact. So, do the really end up with Jake Muzzin? Heck no! Non playoff teams don't aquire rentals kinda like Muzzin. So, with 15 million in cap space, do you really think the leafs aren't able to get Subban in the offseason? They're going to get Subban if they don't have to pay JT or Muz. No sane human being says, ya I'd rather have Kadri and Subban over Tavares and Muzzin. And then you think Pietro's coming home? What would make him want to come home? No JT, the team sucks, they already have a 9 mil right d, he certainly does not come home. O r what about this:
Instead of signing JT, they resign Bozak and JVR. Nope. I don't even need to explain why that would be bad.
What about Derek Ryan and Calvin da Haan lets say? How can you say those 2 > Jonnhy t? You can't. JT was a good signing. That's a fact.
Right? What a concept. Sign good players to be on your team, wild.
It's a tough call cause on one hand I can have a good player, who scores at a rate of 40+ goals per season or like several bad to mediocre players instead. Decisions like this keep me up at night
