Maybe Vancouver doesn't make this deal, but I'm sure the Leafs management is way too wise to consider this deal.

Look at the Leafs cap space next year. Why should the Leafs give up their # 1 prospect Kapanan, and 40th pick a 50th pick (estimates)_ and a pick for whatever Polak is worth. The Leafs aren't going to be contender this year so wouldn't it be better to save all those assets and if necessary trade or sign a UFA and utilize all that cap money. Tanev has three years left on his contract after this year.
Rebuilding Vancouver and rebuilding Toronto aren't a fit. Now if Canucks can make a similar deal to a contender like Dallas or Montreal maybe it helps both teams in the deal, but for the Leafs why?

That's fair and I'm actually a supporter of the Leafs waiting for this year, so ultimately this could be done next year, however I think Tanev would really solidify their top 4 for the next couple years with Rielly-Zaitsev and Gardiner-Tanev. I think if the Leafs wait until the Expansion draft there could be some bargains to be made, with Tanev being an option

I'm saying there is going to lots of guys available in the prior to expansion draft and in UFAs without giving up some prime assets. The Leafs are near the cap this year cause Greening, Michalek, Laitch were obtained to get some younger assets. Once they are off the books next summer, the Leafs will be able to manoeuvre some good acquisitions.

People talk all the time about the importance of the top 4...(yea it's important),. But i betcha if you looked at some playoff teams you would say.....they don't a have a good top four, maybe top three and the four other guys.

Omg, Palhal and the rest of you longtime leaf sufferers, come on! 26 yr old, top pair shut down D, good term for 2 2nds, 2 expensive bums and Kapanen(Rychel,Etem,Mantha...if and when, not regular nhlers). What decade did you last have a shut down D? "Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and hoping for a different result!" Certainly not a quote from any TML gm. Your content as a fan base is baffling? I would have Lost It a Long Time Ago!!!

As a Canucks fan I would do this deal. You guys have a lot of young assets and would probably have a better shot on acquiring him over a lot of other teams.

Only draw back is his physical play or lack of I should say and limited offense(although being on the leagues worst offensive team doesn't help). He makes up for this with his consistency, reliability and overall smart play in his own end. A guy who's also good in the advanced stats columns as well. Also has a good contract and considering he is from the Toronto area I have no doubt he'd re-sign as well.

He would really help you guys transition from a rebuild into being competitive. Even with the loss of two 2nds and Kapanen you guys would still have a considerable amount of picks and young talent outside the NHL. I mean 10 picks in first 3 rounds of the last 2 drafts... If only the Canucks could do something like that...

Babcock would really like him.

The loss of Tanev would hurt us significanly right now since he is our best defenseman but a deal like this would help us tank for a high pick and would jump start our already prolonged rebuild.
