Description
Praying that Trotz doesn't use the choke job as an excuse to scratch Bellows and Wahlstrom; they were not the problem last night. There's a lot of wild suggestions in this post, but this lineup gives us the best chance to win. Czarnik is everything a 4th liner should be; he needs a chance to prove he can be effective. Martin and Clutterbuck, although they are serviceable defensively, are dragging down Cizikas offensively and their lack of speed isn't appropriate for something dubbed "the Energy Line." I don't love Johnston - he's the definition of a goon - but he does bring physicality and honestly I think he's a better skater than Martin. If nothing else, playing him over 17 and 15 will hopefully light a fire under their asses and tell them they need to be better.

As for the other lines, a lot of it is just a change of scenery. Nelson and Bailey's playoff chemistry has turned to dust, so split them up and see what Nelson and do with Lee and what Bailey can do with Pageau. Keep Wahlstrom in the lineup, his goal aside, I liked him in what I watched last night. MDC isn't much more than a warm body, but at least he cares and can forecheck. Maybe look for a 3W via trade.

Defensively, I really, really, really want to see Sebastian Aho get a shot. He's been excellent in the AHL the past three years and looked solid in his call-up almost three years ago. Wouldn't be surprised if he's Devon Toews 2, at least in the sense that he could provide a much-needed offensive spark to a team that needs it. Greene hasn't been horrible, I guess (his RAPM chart is full red, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt....), but again, we need a new look and I think Aho deserves a chance.

Pardon my rambling, still shook from last night

im down with everything except Ross in the lineup. I'd rather put hickey on the 4th line than see him play another game. I think timashov, Koivula, even Greer are better options.

One bright spot this season has been Anders Lee, I've criticized him in the past but he just looks more dynamic/engaged in all 3 zones - and he's producing. I think playing with wahlstrom would increase his production because wahlstrom is a major shot generator.

I would be surprised if trotz scratches wahlstrom after he scored, but I guess you never know with him.

Missing Beauvillier is no small thing. He's a really good player IMO.

Best case scenario: The youth movement gets us back on track and we have expendable veterans we can flip for picks

Worst case scenario: The youth movement struggles and we miss the playoffs, but we restock the prospect cupboard and the rookies are at least way more ready for next year.
