Quoting: F50marco
They're not going to change the rules just for the expansion year. Teams are still paying a steep price when buying players out. That's a lot of money out the window. To us fans who cares except for the buyout penalty but to the owner, that's a lot of wasted money.
I'm not sure if teams must submit a list before the buyout period that cannot change with a buyout but I highly doubt it. Teams should have this option because its not exactly a loophole. They're paying dearly for it either way.
Hm, then I don´t know, why all the girls and boys here talk about the problems with the NMC´s.
Buy them out before the expansion draft and nothing is wrong (ok, the teams have to take the buyout penalty).
This might be cheaper, because you can protect another good player.
Example: Anaheim buy out Bieksa and could keep Fowler. Without the buyout and Bieksa is not waving his
NMC, Anaheim has to trade Fowler at the trade deadline or they loose Fowler for nothing in the expansion draft.
Which scenario would be better for Anaheim?
