Description

This was proposed by the DNVR guys a few weeks ago, so not my original idea, but I’m interested in the public opinion about this hypothetical trade. Apologies if someone else posted this before.

Colorado gets the better player short-term, and clears some money off the books to help re-sign Landeskog, Makar, and Grubauer this offseason. They are lacking scoring in the bottom six. Staal can also help the power play and move up in the lineup in case of injuries. Colorado also has a potential long-term replacement for Compher in their systems already, with Shane Bowers.

Buffalo gets a younger player with term. Compher has struggled offensively this season, but is still a reliable bottom six forward. He can play all forward positions, can play up in the lineup in a pinch, and has experience on the power play and penalty kill. Yes, he was a Buffalo draft pick but the GM and coach that drafted him are long gone. I don’t think the Buffalo ties carry much weight in this scenario.

Sabres would probably decline. Compher really isn't anything special Lazar is better plus they have a center that's in the AHL that will play next year. They would probably want a pick/prospect instead for Staal.
