Description
Avs protect 8 skaters because Johnson isn't asked to or doesn't agree to waive his NMC. MacKinnon, Landeskog, Rantanen, Kadri, Makar, Girard, Toews, and Johnson is the protected list.

Toews will not end up in Seattle. There is just no way. He leads the team in TOI, and is extremely valuable. He'll be protected in any scenario, and so will Makar and Girard.

Burakovsky is good, and I'd hate to lose him, but I think they can replace him if they absolutely have to. I have Tatar in the below, but Iafallo is another UFA that could work, as are Hoffman, Danault, or Palmieri. A trade is a possibility as well.

Personally I think Johnson waives his contractual NMC in exchange for a handshake NMC and this is all moot, but just throwing the scenario out there.

Landeskog is a UFA, just wait to sign him until after the draft. His agent can always tell Seattle he won't sign with them and then he'd be a UFA July 1 free to resign with Colorado

no..you dont do th at. You do not play chicken with your captain and arguable one of your most important fwds. Do not let him get to the legal tampering period. Big name UFAs who get that point do not come back and sign with their teams.

    Its an unnecessary risk

It's certainly a possibility. This is meant to illustrate the worst case scenario. If they do that though then Seattle takes Graves and Sakic needs to figure out how to move one of Compher or Donskoi so he can re-sign Saad.

All of the takes with the Rangers re-acquiring Ryan Graves crack me up. Tony D has a better chance of playing for the Rangers again.
