Description
We are currently 7th place and 9 points out of a playoff spot with about half of the season left. The last thing you might think to do is buy, but here's why I think it makes sense.

I think we can be a strong, competitive team next season (my most recent team). I think if we buy players with term, then we could use them this season to potentially sneak into the playoffs. If we don't it's fine, and we'd have them for next season.

Also look at how easy our schedule is for the next month

I actually get it. I actually wouldn’t be shocked if they bought a little too.

SJ is 11-13-4 but 5 of those regulation losses are to VGK. They are actually pretty decent against the 6 other teams at 11-8-4

ST Louis in their last 20 games, starting 4/2, play Vegas/Col/Minny 17 times combined. They could have a rough final 6 weeks.

The idea is decent, but the trades are incredibly meh.

CBJ gets nothing worthwhile for Jenner

Preds aren't retaining on multi year Jarnkrok.

The win/loss record suggests at the least an okay team and I agree we aren't horrible, but that stat line doesn't tell the full story. SJ has gotten somewhat lucky in those games that went to a shootout or they ended up winning. Like the Blues game last night, the score should have been like 4-1 STL at the end of the game but Jones was a brick wall back there. Sharks are undoubtedly way worse than MIN, STL, COL and VGK when those teams are mostly healthy. I'd say we're on par with ARI and LAK, ANA being the only team we're for sure better than. Even if we're better than the latter 3 I mentioned, the Sharks aren't making it into the playoffs (even if the Blues stink the last half of the year), so I don't think there's any reason to buy unless a totally irresistible offer comes up.

Don't think Jenner has a ton of value though.

Jaros could be a future 2nd pair defenseman and a 3rd round pick in a great draft has decent value.

I did the retention with the idea that Nashville would rebuild to some extent.

Jenner's a fan favorite mid-6 F in CBJ who's played pretty well this year. He's the only proven asset here.

Jaros is a 25 year old AHL D who got traded recently for an AHL winger and a 7th round pick. He's never making the NHL, most likely KHL bound next year. Sörensen's nothing but a cap dump at this point.

3rd could be of decent value, but far from enough.

As for Preds, they might be in for a retool, but they never retain on contracts. Since 2010 they haven't done it once. And they have traded away some big salary guys like Weber, Erat, Subban...
