Description
Capitals unload some expensive contracts on forwards who don't provide enough for the team in return for some draft picks. This allows them to have some cap cushion and give raises to both core and depth players who have been important this season. Also allows for younger guys to see some action, especially on the back end. If they aren't working out, we'd have a decent amount of picks and reasonable cap space to get someone.

Want to add that Oshie could more than likely be exposed in the expansion draft. That would save even more money, and we would keep a veteran defenseman in Dillon around to help the younger guys. But for this scenario found it better to expose Dillon. If we want to save money by getting rid of Oshie, I'm sure he could be traded if we retain salary.

How much would you retain if you sent Oshie to Chicago?

I figured not many teams would, but considering we use him on the PK a lot and has helped, he'd probably help the Chicago PK

Considering he has a cap hit shy of 6mil at 5,750,000, I can see the Caps realistically retaining anywhere from 1mil to 3.5mil

I think it’d have to be retained around 2mil for Chicago make it work. Oshie could be a great piece for a team like Chicago but he will be 38 when the contract is up
