Description
Working off of the assumptions that:

A. Holland doesn't want to move his bigger assets.
B. The price of the more talked-about rentals is far too high for Edmonton to consider.
C. Holland prefers bargain-bin shopping ever since getting burned on Athanasiou.

Namestnikov's history with skilled players hopefully gives Edmonton a more secure opportunity to keep Draisaitl and McDavid separated outside of desperation states. Brassard comes in to shore up a sheltered-minutes third line. Ryan comes in to complete the defensive backbone of the team and help bolster our penalty kill. The Kings deal secures a depth defender for the playoffs while returning a touch of draft capital. Ennis and Kahun remain interchangeable.

The idea is to run the loaded up top-two lines for the majority of evens while cycling in shifts from a sheltered third line and garbage-minutes fourth line. Give the opposition too much to focus on in the McDavid and DYNamite lines in order to allow the third to capitalize on some lesser opposition. The fourth line can take on the toughest matchups when those lines aren't being matched against one of Edmonton's top two lines.

The Oilers are already showing to be relatively competent and that their biggest failing this season is Tippett's suboptimal usage of his roster. Smaller fixes like these only make the Oily Boys machine run smoother and take a bit of the load off of Edmonton's top players. They're already keeping pace with the Leafs and the Jets despite their current warts; a more balanced roster gives them the ability to surpass them. There's still a very likely chance that Edmonton gets goalie'd by any of Campbell, Hellebyuck, or Price in the post-season (happens to everyone honestly) but this roster construction gives them as strong as a roster as I've seen this club have.

I suspect a goalie fix doesn't happen until the offseason. 7 days is still too long of a wait for the Oilers to ride one of Smith into the ground with their recently condensed schedule, and trade prices seem rather unrealistic at the moment. I'd target Ullmark in free agency.

I'm curious as to what the expected return on an unretained Ryan is and why Shore as a club-controlled #4C for next season isn't it. Chiasson's inevitable to make the money work and keeps the Flames from taking on a second year of Turris.

I have his value pegged at about a 5th, given that he's an expensive 4th-liner. What are you expecting?

Why would LA want either of those players? Honestly the 4th is the most valuable piece in that entire trade.

The Namestnikov idea isn't bad, definitely a 3rd best player on a skilled line kind of guy who has thrived with that in the past. With him locked in for next season, that's a deal I'd be willing to send Benson in for for sure. If not many other deals happen to figure out the offset cap space ,could perhaps send Turris as well to offset cap, and add a later pick from the Oil as well. Or move Chiasson as part of the deal.

Any Detroit fans out there with perspectives on Namestnikov and how he's playing/what the team wants to do with him?

Lagesson's an NHL-ready top six defender with his only real drawback being Edmonton having two defencemen better than him that they currently aren't playing. He's an excellent bottom-of-the-roster player for the Kings to pick up, and acquiring Turris at the sake of an AHL defenceman is a win no matter which way you slice it. The Kings have more than enough cash to take him on and they don't give up much of anything.

The odds of that 4th round pick playing as many games as Lagesson and Turris would for the Kings is low. Really low. It's a fine deal for a rebuilding team that's still in need of NHL bodies for the rest of this season and for next.
