Description
Gusev was one of the Devils best offensive players last season. He's got serious offensive upside in the right situation. I know the cost will be low, but someone should target him.

he can't play anywhere but top 6...and he's not that great of a top 6 player.
That's his problem.

I partially agree with this.
He can play on a 3rd/4th line a d be puck possession player for that line (if style fits) . He never fit into Lindy’s system (that made Centers big part of rush) whereas he thrived in 2nd half last year under Hines/Nas’s system (which held centers back and let wings lead offensive attack).

He is great at puck-control, passing. He can be very shifty, creative playmaker. He is a good skater, but not a burner. Right-hand shot that plays LW and likes to cut in towards middle (why he is better in system with centers behind him so he has space).

I think he would best fit in a situation where a team has a strong, defensive center on 3rd line, and he could match with another creative RW (similar to Gusev/Datsyuk/Kaprizov line from Olympics, or Gusev/Zacha/Bratt from from 2nd half last year).

At 50% salary, he should be worth it for some team to take him. Not sure Pens are the best fit however.

Agreed. But for a 5th round pick you'd think someone would take a flier on him. There's always injuries around playoff time.
