Description
Effort tonight was abysmal from everyone besides Beauvillier and Varlamov. Lazy passes, poor shot selection, not jumping on loose pucks, standing around, it all killed us tonight. The Rangers wanted it so much more tonight and it showed from start to finish.

It goes without saying that Wahlstrom should be back in next game. I've tolerated him being out for the last two, but if he can go and Trotz keeps him out again, we're going into next game at a major disadvantage. Zajac, meanwhile has impressed me two games into his tenure with the Isles and I think deserves a promotion. He does a lot of the same things that they would like Leo and I think comes with more offensive upside. Obviously I'd like to see Palmieri up there, but considering they've shown a reluctance to put three purely offensive players together on that line, we may have to settle for this until they break out of that strategy.

Then Bailey and Palmieri switch spots in the lineup, while Wahlstrom reclaims his spot at 3RW. Bailey isn't on the 2nd line to create anything, but he's not a good finisher and is way too conservative with the puck for what that line is supposed to be. I don't think he's a great fit on the 3rd line either, but this way they can reduce his role a bit and get a pure scorer like Palmieri guys who can get him the puck and let him use his shot more

they honestly should move Nelson to LW, Pageau becomes 2c and they go with

Nelson-Barzel-Eberle
Bailey-Pageau-Palmieri
Beauvillier-Cizikas-Wahlstrom
Martin-Zajac-Clutterbuck

Zajac honestly can replace Ciz on the 4th line and it would look as if nothing changed.

Intriguing, i’d love to see Cizikas get a look on the 3rd line.

Trying to find some common ground with the guys who are in charge. I’ve liked Zajac a lot the last two games. He’s smart, wins battles and I think he’d support Barzal and Eberle really well. You know I’d love to see Beauvillier up with those two again as much as anyone, but that’s literally never going to happen lol. Plus Zajac can take faceoffs which is a plus. Which Beau, Leo and even Palmieri can’t really

Komarov has won 39% of his faceoffs - I really don’t think the faceoffs are that big of a deal. Barzal is at 44%, let him continue to work at it. I’d rather have the better player who doesn’t take faceoffs than a worse player who is only slightly better at faveoffs.

I like the 2nd and 3rd lines you have, but I think it’s better to maximize barzal’s skillset. One of wahlstrom/beau/palmieri should be on his lw
