Description
A Buffalo fan suggested Ristolainen for Hathaway and a pick, which just kind of blows up the cap for WSH. If they lose Schultz in the expansion draft, they might or might not want to add an RD. They do have Van Riemsdyk, and they can easily re-sign Ladue. But if they wanted to go after someone with as big a cap hit as Ristolainen, without giving up on Ovechkin, there would have to be some medium cap hits going the other way. Feel free to argue what picks and prospects make this work. I'm just looking at the NHL salary cap side of things.

Seattle isn't clearing cap space for Edmonton in net without the Oilers throwing a pick in. That said I think the value is reasonable. Haven't watched him play enough to know how good he is but would always be hesitant to grab a guy who's had one decent season playing for a top team and throw all my eggs in that basket.

So EDM could keep the pick and have two pretty good goalies? Vanecek's really positional. Doesn't have to make big leaps to get into position, so he doesn't throw himself out of position as much as a more athletic goalie might. WSH should trade him rather than lose him for nothing, and there should be a few teams lined up if the asking price is just a 2nd or 3rd. That is, unless some team makes a knockout offer for Samsonov, in which case the Caps could start Vanecek again next year and be okay.

eta: I know Lavoie is worth more than a 2nd now, after a good season. I think that beats out a couple offers of late 2nd round picks.

I'm not sure why MacLellan would trade a good defensemen for a bad defensmen anyway. Just keep dillon lol
