Honestly the only significant piece they’d be losing is the 1st. Gauthier has been a healthy scratch the majority of the season, with AHL players getting out in over him. Jones has a lot of immediate hype around him, but the Rangers have much better D prospects coming up in the next few years and he’d be kicked out eventually. It’d be capitalizing on his highest value

Jones is the Rangers's best LD prospect right now, but he'd be expendable if it meant getting a guy like Ekholm to an extension.
That said, why can't Nashville just use the 4-4-1 format to protect Ekholm, Josi, Ellis, and Fabbro?
