Description
Poolman is terrible analytically and has 1 point this season?
-"ok fine he can play 1RHD"
Helle is being over played and is starting to wear down?
-"Lets start him again, maybe it will be different"
Who would be a decent bottom pairing defender where we could bring in a solid rookie who is decent defensively?
-'Jordie Benn is perfect"
We need a strong Forward lineup for next game that works on paper.
-"Im sure the same lines that did terrible last game will improve"
Should we play Heinola? There is only a few games left which wouldn't affect his ELC and we could use a change back there
-"Nah we wont cut it, Poolman is better"
Maybe Maurice could try a new game plan?
-"no that's dumb, lets stick to what we have been doing for the last 20 games"

I never saw eye to eye with Peg City Hockey but as time continued I started to realize he's pretty right about this gong show, Maurice does not like to change lines much even if they don't work and the vet bias is starting to hurt this team. Like if we got Sh*t kicked the last few games with pretty much the same lineup, why cant they maybe try new lines and give rookies a shot. Heinola could pretty much play the rest of the season and not hurt his ELC so why not give it a shot? Like if this is the lineup for playoffs, they will get swept. There is not fight in this team as of now and all their defensive and toughness issues are so clear cut now.

Playoffs count against an ELC so maybe they're saving Heinola for just the playoffs idk, he'd help but in the end this team has issues that go beyond just needing one better dman and at this point I'd rather them save his ELC, really should've grabbed a dman or two at the deadline.

Idk what else Maurice could really do with the lines and I don't think they were really the issue last night, guess he could reunite 81/55/26 but they get outscored usually so what's the point.

I honestly think Harkins should be in Wheeler's spot and Wheeler should go to the 4th line or out of the lineup altogether, he looks rough, isn't helping and could probably use some more time off to recover.

I totally agree....Those d pairs are horrendous....give Samberg and Heinola playing time as the remaining games wont hurt the playoff spot anyways

Why does Paul hate Niku so much? I think the guy should get a shot at top pair minutes. Niku has only been given a bottom pairing role and given no confidence from the coaching staff. I think it should be Morrissey - Pionk
Forbort - Niku
Benn - Demelo

We aren't winning a playoff round so don't waste Heinola or Samberg. Keep them for next year and keep having them play lots of minutes in high pressure situations to get them ready for the NHL season next year.

Certainly last year the observations from beat reporters was there was a work ethic issue with Niku, with him being the first one off the ice as opposed to staying to work and improve to get a roster spot. I suspect the team felt the couldn't count on him to step up so they looked elsewhere in the offseason. I don't believe Niku is top pairing material, but should have gotten an extended run out on the third pair where he would be sheltered and did well.

Niku's partners / minutes / expected GF percentage:
- DeMelo; 32 minutes; 53% xGF%
- Morrissey; 24 minutes; 34% xGF%
- Beaulieu; 14 minutes; 37% xGF%
- Forbort; 3 minutes; 23% xGF%
- Pionk; 2 minutes; 25% xGF%
- Stanley; 35 seconds; 0% xGF%

Same story is told when you also look at the forward groups and Niku -- much better being sheltered with the 4th line and caved in when he was on the ice with the first line.
