I wanted to see if the money works, less so about the trade value on either side. TLDR: the money works over the next three seasons for sure, year 4 gets all sorts of hairy I think.

My preference would be to package pieces other than Bear, but I don't see any combination that either Oilers fans nor Jackets fans would be thrilled with. Broberg, Holloway, Konovalov/Skinner, Lavoie, and Samorukov all of a sudden become incredibly valuable pieces to Edmonton by sake of their cheap ELCs (or extension in Dima's case).

Neal has to be immediately bought out in this scenario: retaining 50% isn't enough nor do the assets remain to accomplish such a trade. Not a fan of this given that years 3 and 4 effectively eliminate any hopes of the rising cap covering expenses.

Turris and Russell expiring frees up about $1M after Broberg and Holloway's ELCs are accounted for. Another $3.75M can be found by swapping Koskinen out for the winner of Konovalov vs Skinner. Archibald can probably be resigned for a flat $1M over two years: his savings can go directly to McLeod's next short-term contract. Ennis expiring and Jones being flipped for a draft pick produces the cash necessary to extend Puljujarvi for at least 2 more years. The bonus overages stop after this season, thus the Oilers have about $5M to work with: if $1.8M of this is reserved for two more spare players (C and D), Nurse's contract cannot therefore exceed $8.8M. I suspect his ceiling is $7.5M, which is still very, very high (I'm closer to $6.75M).

Thus the most difficult year of the salary cap can be managed with about $1.1M in extra space. $2.5M will be made available through the expiry of dead cap and I figure that Khaira can be replaced at this point in time with a $1M contract. Benson may or may not get another contract from the Oilers beyond the one I've given here. That $2.5M figure should be enough to bridge Bouchard: it's important to note that Broberg's ELC runs out of slide and begins next season, so he, Konovalov/Skinner, Lavoie, and Samorukov will all be due another contract the year before Laine and Yamamoto are due. Kassian can be moved in this time frame, hopefully without retention, and hopefully the cap has gone up just enough to make everything come together nicely.

Lightning are not paying a 4th for Stalock. It's likely Martin is already signed as the backup anyway. I'd give a 7th at most.

Does Bear really hold that much value? I mean, he'd technically be the main piece going to Columbus assuming the 1st is around 20.

heres a better trade that works for both sides

Laine for RNH (with extension)

Columbus gets its 1c and Oilers finally get someone other than Draisaitl who can properly hang with Mcdavid.

Oilers have full control of Laine as he is an RFA, his sniping ability would complement Mcdavids playmaking well

Laine would get more than 7.5 million though as this season would be seen as anomaly.

We're not all that interested; RNH's 5-on-5 scoring makes him look like a #2C at best and yet he's likely aiming to get paid like a top-line badass. If he'll take a discount, we'd work with him... but if he'd take a discount, he wouldn't stand much chance of leaving Edmonton in any case.
