SEA
  1. Svechnikov, Evgeny
Additional Details:
Expansion Draft. Not enough established NHLers on Detroit worth taking so Seattle picks on potential. if Svechnikov finds a coach that believes in him and gives him some ice time he could flourish into a solid NHL middle 6 piece.

DET
  1. Alnefelt, Hugo
  2. Johnson, Tyler
  3. 2021 5th round pick (TBL)
  4. 2021 7th round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
This is a bit of a swing.
With Vasilevsky being as established and good as he is at only 26 Tampa should be pretty set, other than Petruzelli, who IRL is unsigned Detroit's Goalie pipeline is looking weak.
The picks are low value, but give Detroit the opportunity to take more swings on underscouted players.
This could, value wise be a little low for Detroit, but it gives 3 swings for the future, Johnson fills a position of need for now, is a known quantity to the GM. I would honestly believe Yzerman could do better, but would personally be happy with this for the reasons above.

    1. Eriksson, Loui
    2. 2021 2nd round pick (VAN)
    3. 2023 4th round pick (VAN)
    Additional Details:
Comparable to the Staal deal except Eriksson is a less useful piece on the ice. If NTC comes into play can easily be bought out to allow him to seek a playing role.

How bout instead of trading for a fringe goalie, Detroit just drafts their own in Wallstadt or Cossa who both have a higher ceiling. Then save the cap space of Johnson for no reason

canucks decline again.Benning has stated several times he will NOT use picks to get rid of louies contract period. There is more chance of him being bought out.in my opinion.

Based on the UFA re-signs, paying Vrana more than Bert and offering years into both of their UFA term, and your line pairing makes me think you don't watch hockey beyond a fan perspective.

It's an interesting take, and in theory I don't hate it. However if Wellstedt turns out as good as projected he will need to be paid, commanding likely 9-13% of the cap (~$8.5m-$10.5m equivalent), and I believe that that is too much. When a goalie who is paid that much is not performing you have a very expensive bench-warmer. When a skater of the equivalent cap hit is not performing you have 17 other players to pick up the slack.
I would rather have a 1A 1B tandem at $3-5m each, and be able to invest the rest of the draft capital into other positions.

So I go back and forth with Johnson. Yes he will help the scoring and offensively hes a better option than we have in house as a top 6 center. As long as he isnt taking minutes from ras or veleno I guess so. What it would take for us to pull the trigger on the deal Idk but I hope its more than a goalie prospect.
