Description
The value in these trades is very hard to determine so be calm on the cost/lack there of. Nobody knows what the market will demand at the deadline until it is basically the deadline.

the Hawks will have $5.3 million in space at the deadline if they stick with their current roster until then.
Candidates and cap hit at TDL:
Vanek $587,600
PA Parenteau $282,500
Hanzal $700,600
Vrbata $226,000 *With $500,000 in points bonuses and 1.25 mil in possible playoff bonuses.* NOT A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR HAWKS
Versteeg $214,700 Have to wonder if the Hawks are on his 3 team no trade list?
Sharp $1,333,400
Jagr $904,000

My first choice would be Vanek. With maybe the addition of PA or Hanzal. But if the Hawks end the season with cap space the overage penalties will be less next season and allow for more flexibility.

It's Thomas Vanek and he wont sign that cheap and more then likely even if Detroit trades him we'll probably resign him next summer.

That's not his cap hit or what he is being paid. That's just the amount that would cost against the Hawks for the remainder of the season.

I like all these ideas. For Vrbata, you would obviously wait until after he reaches 40 points, so ARI pays the 500k. Idk how he earns the playoff bonuses, but I would still acquire him, depending on what they are. Obviously that's a risk if he gets all of it if the Blackhawks win the cup. If it's something like ice time, he'll probably not get it.

He has to hit 40 before the tdl or the Hawks will have to pay it. That's only a little over a month away. He probably won't get there by then. But the more important thing is that the Hawks might not have the bonus space left to take his contract with those big bonuses. I believe you are only allowed 7% over the salary cap with bonuses included. They are probably very close to that already.
