Description
So first of all (correct me if I'm wrong) but LV has to reach a cap floor, so what they decide to do is take Laich and his 4.5m contract and then let him walk or resign him to a dirt cheap contract and then use that cap dollars to dip into FA. They then get a potential defenseman with good analytics and a prospect forward. If you want you could throw in some picks or what not.

Secondly I'm not sure about Del Zotto but he's the kind of risk that could pay off huge dividends. Babcock took Gardiner and used his skating and style into an impact transitional defenseman and maybe he could do the same. If he turns out to bust Hunwick (resigned because of Babs) can replace him.

I don't know if ANA will take that deal but they may not have a lot of options.

LV wouldn't have a problem meeting the cap floor by any means, and even if they did I'd doubt they'd take Laich, even with the backdoor deal that you've suggested (not entirely sure those will be allowed since there have been talks about it being taken out.) They'd probably just take Marincin anyways, and what does it matter to us since his contract is up at the end of the year and LV can just grab him in FA if they want to overpay him, or overpay someone worth the dollars like Alzner or Shatty or anyone else. I don't mind the ANA trade, but I definitely think the Leafs might have to add to it, since Sosh isn't doing all that well this season. A second and 4th liner probably won't get you a young RHD playing top 4 minutes, but then again they could lose him for nothing, so I can't be entirely sure what they'd ask. As for Brown, if he keeps up at this pace then you can be sure he either asks for more money for that term or a shorter term for less dollars. I also don't see the need in signing Del Zotto and Hunwick. Babcock likes Hunwick and unless he's not an option anymore (which I doubt) he'll probably man the third pair again. I've liked Del Zotto for a while now, especially since he is a GTA native, but I don't see him AND Hunwick coming here. I do like the term and dollars though and the reasoning behind it.

Really, my biggest problem with this is just the LV expansion. We don't need to give up two players when they're going to take one of them anyways. But I do like Manson, he may cost a little more than that but I'm not sure, but I like the idea of him and I do like the Del Zotto signing, but not with Hunwick also signing just to be a seventh D. It's possible, but I just don't see it likely.

LeafsFan: There is too much silliness about Vegas reaching then cap floor. I think it there 30 guys drafted have to total 43m They can trade and sign UFA to reach the real cap floor for training camp. Seems to a conception on this site, that all 30 teams can rid of a bad contract.....because Vegas has to reach the cap floor.
That been said...Laich is a UFA and isn't going to be drafted.
If you like Brown, Hyman and Zaitsev they might sign long term for more money. The Leafs should be able to make a deal or two for a other teams "4" Dman before the expansion draft. Manson would be great as you suggest but might cost more. At least two near ready NHL players...like Valiev and Lindberg and maybe a bit more.
Instead of the two UFA Dmen signing do one of Dermot, Neilsen or Valiev make the jump from the AHL? Leafs have cap to make a good NHL Dmen signing if only for a short term, but they might be a trade or two make the deal.
I've suggested they might protect 5 Dmen in the draft and only protect 3 forwards.
