Description
I don't think the Kings should go out and get a big name just to get a big name. They're putting together something really nice with their prospects and trading them away before they even see NHL time is a little premature in my opinion. While Reinhart would be nice, there's only a certain amount of sense he would make. And I like the option to be able to select either a good D-man or solid winger at #8.

I bring in Debrusk to add someone with top-6 experience. If his performance over the year earns his QO then great, and the Kings have the option to bring him back. If not, then he's there as a bridge player while Turcotte, Kaliyev, and Kupari get their feet wet. The expectation is that 2022-2023 would be those three's first full years in the league. Kupari gets the extra roster spot to begin the year, and Kupari/Turcotte start in Ontario until Quinton goes to World Juniors.

I add Oleksiak to bring a size/physical element to the back end with the ability to eat minutes. He's not the "dynamic" player that Rob has said he wants, but it allows Toby to show the Kings more of what he's going to become. Also, Oleksiak brings a certain amount of veteran experience and leadership to help Drew with a very young D-corp.

I'm not a fan of how few right shot players are on the forward group, but that's something that can't really be addressed with this year's crop of free agents.

$4M for a 3rd pairing defenseman is pretty steep.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was excessive, but I expect he won't necessarily be a traditional 3rd pairing defenseman. Probably a PK specialist that gives the Kings an option to play 15-18 minutes a night. Helps take the load off of Drew.

I expect he will have heavy interest on the open market this year. Not much in the way of decent LD as UFAs. Might have to overpay to get him. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Wasn't this a guy the Bruins had healthy scratched in the playoffs?

If I'm off, what are the Bruins expecting for him?

I admittedly didn’t do a ton of looking into what an expected contract for Oleksiak would look. I was thinking 4mil was a little bit of overpay.
