Can't see a reality where Zibs extends that cheap since he projects to demand upward towards 10M if he hits UFA...No idea here where he really stands- all accounts are that he loves NY- but I'd think a hometown discount with NYR starts at 8.5M. One outside possibility would be him signing a cheaper deal for 2-3 years- till flat cap over- but I still don't think 6.5M would cut it.

its over 7 years though, is there a team willing to take him to 35 at 8+? I could see someone offering him 8.5x4 or 5. Still think he stays and takes the term at 6.5. 6.5x7 gives him the same value as 9x5

right now only NYR can offer 8 years anyway...hey- I like your thinking- but I'm sure Mika's agent would be looking at 6.5 X 7 (as opposed to 9X5) as leaving a lot of money on the table....this is a business where these guys have a small window to make their money- so they usually go where the big money takes them- with the exception of small hometown discounts or discount due to being in a low tax state.
