Description
In this scenario the philly and Anaheim trades happen before expansion draft and the laine trade happens afterwards.

So for Seattle the wild protect Zuccarello, fiala, ek, hartman, foligno, greenway, Nolan, suter, spurgeon, brodin. I don’t think they need to protect frost cause he’s on entry level deal. Can’t remember that part of the rules, but protecting him over Nolan.

Leaving exposed rask, Henrique, soucy, talbot. I would assume Seattle takes soucy as there are other better options for goalies.

Philly trade gives them their rhd and another good c prospect to add to their pipeline. Wild get frost and the 1st as the price. Nolan is more of a throw in and the 3rd is my attempt as value balancing as the wild get 2 good young centers ready for nhl time with the team.

The Anaheim is basically Anaheim saving real dollars for cap hit, they buyout parise and get the picks. Parise can go find somewhere else to play and contend. Henrique would be a good 3rd/4th line player to fill holes when needed and if bought out has a much cheaper cap hit than parise.

The laine one is my thinking outside the box. It gives the wild a lethal top 6, sacrificing Boldy who has 1st line potential, but him and fiala would be a dynamic duo like kk and zucc. I think jee would be a good driver for them and his defensive acumen would make up for their offensive play. All 3 return to peak form together overall.

This would give rossi and Nolan time overall, but banks on one of rossi, frost or Patrick to turn into that legit 1C player.

Overall the team has more flexibility, a more solidified, skilled and similarly aged core that can make the team very competitive for the long haul while the defensive core is still intact.

Dollars for laine or whoever are totally up for negotiation, but I would think moves like this are what would turn the wild into an actual contender from the jump.

From a Philly perspective; it's a steep price, but barring we don't get Jones + ext., Dumba is the logical "next up" to try and get to fill our RD spot. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this happen.

It's a good start to negotiations for sure, and Fletcher should definitely entertain the offer and subsequent counter-offers.

That's gonna be a big time negative from Anaheim.

When you say "The buyout years are slightly more" are you talking from a dollars owed perspective, or from a cap hit perspective?

Buying out Rico would cost the Ducks a total of $11.65 mil (And only $11.65 in cap commitments), with the cap hit staying at a flat $1.941 mil per year for the next 6 years.
Buying out Parise would cost the Ducks a total of $6.66 mil, but a cap hit total of $26.82 mil over the next 8 years(!!!), with years 2,3 and 4 being between $6.3-$7.3 mil.

So yeah, I see it from a "Hey, you get to save $5 million!" perspective, but it makes zero sense for Anaheim to take on the extra $15 mil+ in cap commitments, in exchange for the 22nd overall pick in a mediocre draft. Handcuffing yourself like that when you're looking to start coming out of a rebuild in a year or two is a dangerously bad plan. They've already got the cap space-weaponize it to help out someone without f*cking yourself long term.

The easiest thing for the Ducks to do is to organize their expansion draft exposures so that one of Silf, Rico, Shatty or Manson are the likeliest to be chosen, and cut costs there, then use that space elsewhere.

From CBJ, it’s not bad. Might try to squeeze an extra pick or something in there.

I’m a fan of Boldy, and 14th OA ain’t bad. Rask doesn’t do much though - we have plenty of Bottom-9 Centres; need top tier ones. Plus, we’re rebuilding, so getting a 28 YO rental is kind of a waste.

My only beef is Patrick lane:

Do I want him: Hell yeah

But he's a Winger, he's free agent in 1 year, & his play will get him benched much like Dean Evason does with Fiala whose much better player defensively

The Laine contract seems low. People will say what they want about Laine, but the guy definitely believes in himself so I can't see him signing long term at $6 million. He would bet on himself with a short deal.
