Flames trade makes no sense, you are either getting scammed if Gaudreau doesnt come extended and then walks, or scamming if he does come extended.

(Assuming the extension is something reasonable like 8-8.5M)

And 8.5 for Douggie is crazy

Again though its a double edged sword. Lets assume Gaudreau signs for like 8Mx7. With his playstyle he should still produce at a ppg average well into his 30s, feeding Matthews maybe more.

With that considered this would be a really bad move for Calgary since Pelletier is an NHL ready top 50 prospect in the league.

However if there is no extension this trade could quickly force Toronto back into a rebuild, especially if AM34 walks

Marner is a younger and better version of Gaudreau. Marner for Tkachuk or you don't deal with the Flames.

Marner is younger and better than Gaudreau, and CGY wants, press I’ve read indicates, to move on from him. Even if the Leafs work out a decent value extension with this older, worse player, CGY gets the better player. And it is not close. Doesn’t seem to me a scam.
